Interesting question. Natural selection left unimpeded invariably leads to ecological equilibrium over time. There’s no evidence to suggest free market capitalism would do the same, and may do the opposite.
Intelligent design is only something stupid religious people who have never opened a science book believe. It is exactly as valid as Flying Spaghetti Monsterism.
No. The theory of evolution is a biological process. It doesn’t touch on ethics, morals, or any other application other then biological change. Lots of people have tried to use it to support eugenics and capitalism. But that is actually another topic unrelated to biology. It is like using germ theory to argue in support of anti-spam software.
In complete Free Market capitalism the only ones who would be able to afford anything would be the corporations, the a ss-kissers “chosen” to get a top company position; and police officers/security. Everyone else would join the military and go off to war.
And don’t forget about global warming frying our planet to death
With the threat of environmental collapse growing, and the potential for nuclear war on the rise, it is quite possible that we won’t survive as a species. Capitalist societies are the dominant institutions responsible for these threats to our survival. Thus, it becomes just as possible to hypothesize that capitalism is a kind of failed social adaptation, one that will end humanity in the “survival of the fittest model.”
No. You don’t have to be smart to become rich, it comes by working hard for a dream.
There are plenty of stupid people with a lot of money. I believe most of these people go by the name Liberal, and live in Hollywood. They get someone with intelligence to invest their money for them. Didn’t you know why these folks have so many lawyers? Paris Hilton is one of these stupid people, and she is wealthy! Darryl Hannah, who is a Liberal, and rich, sits in trees in California on other peoples personal property. Do you think that’s a sign of her intelligence?
“Free Market” is far from “free” in the USA. When the Federal Reserve is bailing out banks, mortgage brokers and corporations (remember Chrysler) and setting interest rates they are fooling the US taxpayer who has to pay for it. So Darwin’s theory is not in effect, since they are being rescued from extinction. Intelligent Design? Yes, for the big money that has our government by the nose!
Tough call, I’m no expert but this is how I see it. Darwin may have thought that the free market was a good application of his theory, however most of the people who claim to have put Darwins theory into action (Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mao Tse Dung) where anything but free-market supporters. Marx, who’s communist philosophies where mainly inspired by Darwin’s “The Origin of Species” was especially enthralled with Darwin.
It seems to me that a free market really does encourage Darwins philosophies of survival of the fittest, however the missing factor that people like Marx and Mao Tse-Dung leave out is the ability for the invisible hand of free market economics to actually help the less fortunate rather than hurting them. Such as voluntary charities like Goodwill, RedCross, Salvation Army, and Save the Children. Not to mention the creation of more jobs due to a less regulated economy.
Some of my names may have been wrong, I’m no historian but you get the idea.
I would say that Free Market Capitalism loosely follows some principles of Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, but I wouldn’t agree that it’s an application of the theory.
If you compare the market under Capitalism to animals in the natural environment, they both follow the same basic principles in that the businesses/organisms that survive are those best adapted to the market/environment. I think it’s important for people to realize that while some people (or businesses) who may seem stupid now, but are extremely rich, may not have the skill sets necessary to adapt to market changes in the future.
An example of this is the current sub-prime mortgage crisis. If left to its natural environment (i.e. without government intervention) banks that were involved in sub-prime lending would have completely died out. Essentially, while they were doing very well (and making tons of money) they were not in a position to adaquately adapt to changes in the market… thus resulting in their demise.
To make this comparison you have to look at the BASIC principles of both Free Market Capitalism and Darwinism… the US, while touting to be a free market, is in fact a variation of it since government intervention is allowed – in true Free Market Capitalism this would not happen. The same way human organizations that try and save endangered species do not exist in Darwin’s Theory of Evolution.
What do you think?
No….
It’s Britney Spears getting wealthy for doing nothing, while I struggle to pay bills working full-time.
hmmm. Interesting question. I would say probably survival of the fittest so Darwin’s theory. That is a rather sad analogy.
Intelligent Design and Easily Misled.

Neither . Capitalism is an economic system, not a biological process or a religious mythology.

it is an application of the caste system with a different name.

It’s all about money.
it is the application of Unintelligent Evolution-according to Doyle (all rights reserved)
It would be Intelligent Design. Trust Me!!
