How can I research a local company so I can ask intelligent questions during an interview?

I want information like who the competitors are. What type of market share they have, annual sales figures, any company information like number of employees, news stories etc. etc. Is there a good site to find this for free?

I would start with Yahoo Finance. Also try Google Finance. Now, if the company is not a public company I have no idea.

I would check on the company’s website, under investor relations (annual reports), news and press releases. Also, search the company on Hoovers.com. If the company is listed on Hoovers, then you would be able to find out an overview of the company, key people at the company, competitors, and annual sales. Also, check out trade publications of the industry in which the company operates for additional information.
