I’ve been trying for months to find any reference to my surname beyond a web search (which sadly only turns up doctors in New York and my profile on a couple of sites/forums). All I’ve managed to find thus far is that “Ro(e)hm” was a pilgrim/merchant traveler to Rome, and that “Hol(d)t” is a word for wood. Would this make my ancestors lumber salesmen at the Roman markets, or is there something more intriguing behind my oft mispronounced and misunderstood surname? Cheers!
What is the meaning and origin of the surname Roehmholdt?
