The difference between these two majors are they concentrate and train you (teach you) on two different aspect of marketing.
Let me start me by explaining you on each division separately:

    Marketing: Standard
This field of study trains on the aspect of marketing like Concept building, Packaging, Branding, Strategies to Market a product, Consumer relationship, forecasting,……………………. and selling

    Marketing: Advertising
This field of study will be give insight in to the all kinds of advertising like how to use advertising in different media’s, what kind of advertisement is relevant for certain kind of product or services, branding, …………………………………..everything related to advertisings………………………………………

Roughly telling the former talks on about the making or building a product where as the latter talks or teaches about the selling that product.

Both suck. The only marketing that works is the EMOTIONAL DIRECT RESPONSE MARKETING model. It’s accountable, measurable and gets results.
