OK, it's late so just a quick answer now.
I assume you're a graphic designer, so will respond accordingly. I'm not sure if you're interviewing for a FT job or a freelance gig; that would have been helpful to know. Anyway:

Teisha provided some very low figures. I know freelancers can do things for less than a full-service ad agency (they don't have the overhead), but at an ad agency, there will be meetings with the client, planning meetings, then your creative director giving input, throwing some of your ideas back, then of course client changes. Putting together a newsletter could take 40 hours - but of course, it depends on whether it's a 4-page letter of 16-page. Try to figure out how much it would take to design a page, to design the masthead, and then figure in time for client and agency meetings, as well as revisions. That should help.

Then do the same with the other projects.

Websites are very labor-intensive. I've never done one for under $1200 - for say 8 pages. And that was with all the material provided for me; I attended just one meeting. I'm a freelancer, but I remember agency prices. Websites are like brochures; they take at least 40 hours. Again, depends on length.

If you want to create some wiggle room for yourself about costs, you can say that once you know their hourly rate for the various functions, you could pull together a quote for them. Agencies tend to bill their clients at least $150/hr for creative.

Finally, if you're a member of LinkedIn (or perhaps even if you're not), you can post your question there and get dozens of responses.

There is the right way and the cheap, dime a dozen way. The person that said 299 likely implies the dime a dozen way. The rough answer is ecommerce site (where people can actually purchase products) $1500-$5000 and 1-2 months to make. A normal info site $1500-$2500. I know this because i help make REAL sites like: http://www.AppliancesOnDemand.com The newsletter and other stuff around $1000. Remember just like everything else in life, you get what you pay for. You pay $299 you get a site that will make you $299 a year. You pay real money for a real site..... you make thousands a year.

Hello!

I do freelance websites and graphic design, and have been doing so for about three years now. My boyfriend and I have developed a company called KOTO graphics, which we do on the side apart from our jobs. The benefit to our company is that we are a bit more inexpensive than most companies, and we create highly successful and professional websites and business identities.

For the E-catalogue, I would have to do research for you, however the website would range around 299, depending on how many pages there are. Updates are 20 dollars each, after the site is published.

The newsletter would be 49, plus the printing cost.

Feel free to check out my past website creations -
http://www.endurancejourney.com
http://www.firelightindustries.com
http://www.elpatrongeorgetown.com

We do have a company site, but it is still being developed, so the form is not working quite right yet - http://www.kotographics.com

Feel free to email me if you are interested - kimohlig@yahoo.com.
