Event Photographer – how to use pictures for advertising?

What does a photographer need to be able to use pictures taken at an even for his/her own advertising? Do they need a model release signed by everyone they picture? An event such as a party? I am talking about a professional photographer. I would like answers from people who do event photography. Thanks :)

you can display any photo you take as part of your professional portfolio. photos used for commercial purposes including advertising must meet different standards including a model release from every identifiable person in the photo.

It really depends upon the event and if the guests have to sign a release as they pay their cover charge and go through security. May event companies have guests sign a liability waiver and photo release upon entry. That covers everything.

I have the venue include permission for me to use some of the images from the event to use in self-promotion and advertising as well as the venue team.

Since the photographer owns the copyright to all the images, the release give them the right to publish the images using the release signed by the guests and also the right to license their use by the club or venue owner.
